So this is not really what I would call a super interesting post. It's just a little peek at what I've been thinking about lately. Some of my thoughts are super deep (like do babies think in pictures, words, colors, impressions, the Adamic language?) and some of them are super shallow, like the one I'll share with you now. Many of you...nay, the majority of you...who read this blog call me by my given name...Cheyenne. You should know that you, my friends, are an anomoly in my world. Aubrey rarely calls me Cheyenne, my family never calls me Cheyenne. Tracy and Laura, steadfast and true, never really call me Cheyenne either. In fact, most of my high school classmates don't really call me Cheyenne. What made me think of this? Several emails, phone messages and a blog communication that didn't use my real name even once. If I had been friends with The Man With No Name or the Pale Rider, I could have given them one of mine. There are many to choose from.
1. Shiny-Sue-the-Buckaroo: used first by my Grandpa and is the most generally accepted nickname in my ENTIRE family.
2. Shiny: a nickname for the afore mentioned nickname. Nobody really knows how to spell this, so it can appear as Shiney, Cheyne or Cheynie. It is also the name on my Robert R. Rex family reunion t-shirt. EVERYBODY related to me calls me this or another variation.
3. Shiny-Sue: another variation.
4. Buckaroo: another variation.
5. Chey: pronounced "shy" and used by most of my high school classmates and Laura Lou (best friend from college). It is also a nickname for nickname #6.
6. Chey-Chey: really the same nickname as #5, just said twice. This was the original nickname given to me in third grade. They said my name was too long. Apparently, so was this one (see #5).
7. Chey: what, didn't I already list this? This one is pronounced "shay" and used only by Tracy (best friend from college). She is, in fact, the only one who is really permitted to use it.
8. CK: also a nickname from high school (my maiden name is Kearl, hence the CK). This name really became popular with the fragrance CK1 by Calvin Klein.
9. Cheynanners: mostly used by Tiffany (best friend and cousin). When we were little, she couldn't say my name so she called me Cheynanne. The evolution seems obvious. It also goes well with Bananners.
10. Babe: used almost solely by my hubby, although my mom uses it as a blanket nickname for all her girls. Aubrey also uses Baby and doesn't call me Cheyenne unless he's trying to get my attention.
There are more, but these are really the top ten. Did I leave any of your nicknames out? Like I said, not a particularly interesting post, but it is what I'm thinking about. As I compiled this list, I realized that most of these nicknames have nicknames of their own. It's a snowball effect that just won't stop. I have neices and nephews who call me Aunt Chey ("shy" not "shay"). But that's OK with me. I love nicknames (see my Neighborhood Gossip links next door) and mine just mean that I'm totally loved and cool enough to be known by something other than my given and family name. Like P. Diddy or Fresh Prince. It's really all my ego wants in life!

Love it! I think I'll write a post on my nicknames. Oh, and Emma calls you Sunshine. I guess that's a variation of Shiny, kind of. I think I explained that we called you Shiny, like Sunshine and she decided she liked Sunshine better. Anyway, when I talk about you, I have to say Sunshine so she knows who I am talking about (not my cousin Cheyenne.
I totally forgot about that one! I remember when she just said that out of nowhere at the reunion. So cute!
I love that I'm the only one aloud to call you Chey (Shay)...and to think you hated it for so long...thank goodness for perserverence. (Yes I'm aware I can't spell that word)
Love the first one. It sounds like something my daddy would come up with. He has nicknames for all his kids. Ashley's is the funniest! it's real long so she'll have to tell you about it-something about trash on the side of the mountain!
By the way I finally posted pictures!
i never really thought about my nicknames will have to post! I love the Buckaroo ones, so Nebraska :) I have always used Cheyenne. For one your given name really fits, and two I like it! :)
I will always call you Shiny or Shiners! Holy cow you have a lot of nicknames! Mine are just Steff, Steffi, steffer the heffer, Steffisuetoobaloo(from you), my dad always calls me puff ball or sue-to-a-knee.
No one gave me nicknames. My gramma called us all "precious," but since I was first, I guess it originated with me. Or my aunt, since she was her first baby. LOL.
That was until "Friends" became popular, and people thought it was ok to call me "Rach," which I hate. Because it's not a good nickname. My younger nephew called me "Sachel" for awhile, and my brother-in-law still calls me that.
Ben calls me Queenie, since I'm the queen of everything, and some of our friends called me Weezie.
But I really don't have any nicknames that stick.
Kind of sad!
