An attitude of gratitude

So, I've been doing a lot of contemplating these past couple of weeks about life, the world, the cosmos...all the big stuff. And I've come to a conclusion: one of the biggest problems with our society is that people aren't grateful enough for what they have.

If you're grateful, you don't:
*swindle millions from hard-working investors because you're own 7-figure salary isn't enough
*put your family in debt up to their eyeballs so you can keep up with the Jones's
*criticize the people around you
*look at the glass half empty

However, you will:
*be happy no matter what (almost)
*work hard and be pleased with your life
*love to be around and to be kind to people, who will have no choice but to love you back
*give others confidence because you have it yourself

I really could go on and on, but I think you get the point. I've definitely had some pretty trying times in life and with each experience, I've found that being grateful takes away much of the burden. I'm thankful for everything I have from the opportunity to be a mom (and even the challenges of getting there) to my quiet-running dishwasher. And I'm super thankful for my sense of humor. It's so much better living on the lighter side of life. What are you thankful for? I want to hear it.

I'm thankful for my family, that includes all the roommates of Sara. You all have taught me many things about life and love that you might not know. You all have been great big sisters for me and I'm thankful you chose to be "part" of our family!! Congratulations on the baby!! Check out my blog for a cool cloth diapers website!!

How funny I was just talking to some friends over lunch today about how I have this nice new house and I saw what I'll do on my next house because I wont' be here forever.. I was mentioning that it's sad that I seem ungrateful for what I have! I am so grateful for my family, for the temple, for the calming reassurances we get in the temple despite that craziness of the times, my noisy dishwasher that makes it so I don't have to hand wash them. My husband who cleans the table for me so I don't have too. My daughter who loves her hippo that chews on stuff and wants to chew on the missionaries socks (yes I'm watching her do it!). And I'm thankful for my friends.. even those who live so far away from me!

i am so thankful for the simple things in life i used to take for granted, like running water, power, actual floors (not dirt) and lots of other things like that. after living in what is really like a third world country, i'm a lot less picky about househunting. i don't have a clothes drier right now and i won't till i move and it's ok. i didn't have a dishwasher the first year we lived here and it's ok. i'll be so grateful to put my kids back in alabama schools (yes, i said alabama schools; lets you know how bad things are here) and i will never take $20 for granted ever again. and i'm so grateful for all of the friends who talk to me and have kept me as sane as possible this past two years. and i'm grateful most of all that it's possible for me to learn these lessons of gratitude and be able to seek forgiveness for my former stuck-upness. great post cheyenne!!!!

You are so right - I'm pondering a post right now on my bad case of "Want tos" and some of those things can definitely be taken care of with a dose of gratitude :-)

I'm thankful for my perfect baby who goes to sleep around 9:30 every night and sleeps for at least 5 hours, I'm thankful that Ben loves his work and that jobs continue to come to his company, I'm thankful for the opportunity to stay home with Lilah, I'm thankful for all my pets and I'm thankful for my awesome husband, who knows all the right things to say when he really needs to :-D I'm also thankful to know people who force me to think about things I wouldn't normally consider, or don't consider enough!
